Native to China and Japan, Hardy Gardenia will produce show-stopping white fragrant blooms on stems with dark glossy green leaves. Mulch these plants to keep them moist in summer, and prune right after flowering to remove any unwanted branches and finished blooms. Kleim’s Hardy Gardenia is one that can tolerate sun, but should be planted in an area that has protection from reflected heat of hardscape. We suggest planting these close to well-frequented outdoor spaces such as patios and pools, to appreciate its heavenly fragrance. Gardenias should be watered at their base rather than overhead, to prevent leaf-spotting.
