The Aucuba Japonica is known as Japanese Laurel, or Spotted Laurel. Native to the eastern Himalayas east of Japan, Japanese Laurel is a glossy-leaved shrub. It performs best in a sheltered East-facing location. While most books give it a zone 7, experience has shown that they can overwinter without showing any signs of winter wilt or browning.
