As spring draws nearer there are some early garden chores that can be done on a mild day.

Perennials
1) If you have not already done so, cut back perennials and grasses once risk of heavy frost has passed.
2) Divide and move perennials before the new growth gets too tall.
3) Once most perennials in the border are showing some growth apply Botanix annual and perennial food to give them a good start.

Lawn Care
1) Once the ground has dried out somewhat, over-seed large bare patches in the lawn.
2) Apply Crabgrass control about the time that Forsythias are in bloom. (early to mid-April). If you are using this remember to put off over seeding until later in the season.
3) If no crabgrass control is needed apply Botanix spring fertilizer to boost growth and fill in bare spots.

Trees and Shrubs

1) Dormant spray should be applied to fruit trees and shrubs that may be harbouring over-wintering insects or diseases. Dormant spray is applied before the leaf buds break and when there is no risk of frost.
2) Shrubs that need pruning can be cut back once risk of heavy frost has passed. Just remember that spring flowering shrubs should be trimmed after they flower, if trimming is needed.

Seeding Vegetables, Perennials and Annuals

1) Most perennials may be seeded out now. Some types of vegetables and annuals may also be seeded very early. Peas, Radishes, Sweet Peas, Larkspur, Cornflower and Poppies can be seeded.
2) Plant out onion sets and potatoes.
